Cruise Ship Job Description for Information Systems Manager:
A cruise line Shipboard Information Systems Manager (I/S Manager) is an onboard officer in charge of shipboard systems, hardware and software, as well as all related peripherals. This is a 10 month live aboard, 24 hours on-call cruise ship job (in addition to daily responsibilities). Internet access is restricted to email due to limitations in satellite communications. During training and handover periods it will be necessary to share a cabin.
As an officer, the I/S Manager is expected to act accordingly and must adhere to all shipboard rules and regulations as well as dress code. The I/S Manager reports directly to the cruise ship’s Hotel Manager as well as the Supervisor of I/S Fleet Operations.
The I/S Manager works with ALL the cruise line’s onboard departments and shoreside cruise ship personnel in the operation and maintenance of the shipboard computer systems and equipment. Computer systems encompass bar register network; within the Unix system: point-of-sale, on-board credit and guest tracking; PC network.
Information Systems Cruise Job Requirements:
Generally, a minimum Associate Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience, excellent written and verbal skills, and knowledge of systems/programs: Unix, MS Outlook, MS Access, WordPerfect, Lotus, MS Office, Win XP/Vista/7, troubleshooting and repair of PC/printer hardware. Fluency in a higher level programming language (e.g., C++) is very helpful.
